t0.technology builds cutting-edge instrumentation for scientific and industrial sensing, with primary focus areas in superconducting quantum sensors for cosmology and astrophysics, radio correlators, and experimental radar. Our work spans cryogenic detector arrays, large-scale radio-frequency systems, FPGA-based embedded electronics, and custom digital signal processing. We design and deploy real instruments that operate in demanding field environments, while maintaining strong ties to open academic research.
Job description
We are seeking a postdoctoral associate with deep expertise in signal processing for radio astronomy to lead work spanning radio array development and deployment, interferometric signal processing, and applied array processing.
The role bridges two tightly linked efforts:
Wideband radio correlators for astrophysics, including systems deployed for next-generation large-dish-count radio interferometers.
Experimental remote sensing development, translating radio-astronomy-style correlation, calibration, and array-processing techniques to passive and active imaging in application areas such as space traffic management.
This position spans both real-time signal processing and the analysis pipelines built on top of it, including calibration, map making, and analysis operating close to raw visibilities and time-domain data. Candidates may emphasize algorithm development, system integration, or a hybrid of both.
This role is functionally postdoctoral in nature, with strong expectations for technical leadership, publications, and delivery of working systems. The successful candidate will work closely with internal hardware, firmware, and software teams, as well as external academic and government collaborators. A postdoctoral associate at t0.technology can be a pathway to a staff scientist role with a large fraction of time reserved for self-directed academic research.
Technical Scope
Depending on background and interests, the role may emphasize one or more of the following areas:
A) Interferometric Digital Signal Processing & System-Level Integration
Design, optimization, and validation of FX-style correlator pipelines, including channelization, correlation, integration, and statistical characterization.
Design and validation of analog signal chains, antenna arrays, and receiver systems in collaboration with RF and hardware teams.
Development of algorithms that directly inform system architecture, performance limits, and validation of real-time backends.
B) Algorithmic Inference & Analysis Pipelines
Map making and imaging from interferometric data.
Inverse problems, estimation, and uncertainty quantification in array-based sensing.
Development of analysis pipelines operating close to raw or lightly processed visibilities and time-series data.
Simulation, modeling, and validation of algorithms using real instrument data.
Real-time or near-real-time triggered analysis for object or event detection.
C) Experimental Radar & Applied Array Processing
Adaptation of interferometric and correlation techniques to sensing, detection, and localization problems.
Algorithmic evaluation of interference mitigation, delay/phase-lag recovery, and array-based estimation methods.
Research Environment & Independent Work
This is a research-focused role within a small, instrument-driven organization. The position includes a significant allocation of time for independent, self-directed research, up to 50%.
Independent research topics must be aligned with current or future scientific, technical, or business interests of t0.technology, but are otherwise at the discretion of the researcher. This work may be conducted on-site or through collaboration with external partners at universities, observatories, or research institutes. We actively support researchers holding visitor or cross-appointed status within academic collaborations.
Independent research is expected to result in publishable outcomes and will be supported by the company through access to equipment, data, and project resources.
A successful candidate is expected to:
Make novel contributions to the scientific fields of interest and relevant community.
Collaborate with university groups, observatories, and government research partners.
Balance publishable research with the delivery of systems that tangibly advance the state of the art.
Profile
An ideal candidate will have:
A PhD (or equivalent research-track experience) in physics, astronomy, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field.
Demonstrated expertise in statistical signal processing for wideband RF systems.
Experience with radio interferometry, correlators, beamforming, calibration, map making, or closely related inference techniques.
Strong scientific computing skills and comfort working across algorithmic, software, and system boundaries.
A track record of research outputs (publications, deployed pipelines, or instrumentation contributions).
Familiarity with FPGA-based signal processing frameworks (e.g. CASPER) or high-throughput GPU pipelines is welcome. Hands-on hardware experience is welcome but not required; we are equally interested in candidates whose primary strength is algorithm development and interferometric data analysis conducted close to the instrument.
Position Details & Working Style
This is a full-time appointment with flexibility in start date, including the possibility of a soft start to complete an existing research commitment. The initial appointment is expected to be two years, with the possibility of extension into a permanent research position by mutual agreement.
t0.technology values close coordination, creativity, and a flat hierarchical structure. We are a small, hands-on team: researchers are expected to be accountable on projects on which others depend, and to contribute collaboratively across disciplinary boundaries. This is not a managerial role, but it does involve shared responsibility for documentation, planning, and deployment consistent with being a co-investigator on research projects.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $75k–$105k CAD, depending on experience.
